Sugar Violets is a melodic shoegaze duo from San Diego who have been generating strong buzz within the local music scene as of late. Earlier this month, they released a heavenly new single called “Maybe,” a fuzzy whirlwind of lo-fi guitar atmospherics, dream-pop melodies, and warm, affecting vibes.
Singer Lashaan Everett’s crisp and soothing vocals serve as the song’s guiding light through a flurry of beautifully piercing guitar noise, thrashy percussion and guttural basslines. As the track ebbs and flows with wave-like fluidity, Sugar Violets strike the perfect balance between catchy and dissonant. Everett’s “ooohhhs” and “aaaahhhs” inject sexy, intimate moods into a rippling rush of staticky layers that never lets up from start to finish. Most importantly, “Maybe” leaves us craving more; Sugar Violets is absolutely one of the most promising new San Diego acts, and we can’t wait to hear more from them. Whenever any new songs drop, you can be sure we’ll bring you full coverage. In the meantime, you can purchase “Maybe” HERE or listen to it below via Bandcamp.
