East Berlin post-punk band DIÄT cemented their status as DIY titans in 2015 with the release of their brilliant debut album, the dark, cerebral and throttling Positive Energy. Last week, they re-emerged with a brand new single, an expansive and atmospheric head rush called “We” – coupled with the announcement of their sophomore LP Positive Disintegration, which arrives on February 22 via Iron Lung.
“We” opens on a whispering suction of fuzz before igniting behind a pulsating bass line and a sludgy guitar riff – with the singer’s baritone drawl hovering over it all. Overall, it’s a slow but methodical post-punk jam exploring cavernous sonic textures not unlike other meditative, goth-infused acts like Nick Cave or Iceage. It’s a nice evolution for DIÄT, and a sign of big things to come. When Positive Disintegration drops, we’ll be sure to let you know our thoughts. You can pre-order it HERE, and listen to “We” below via Bandcamp.
