One upcoming show that we’re extremely excited for is going down this Friday night at the Whistle Stop in South Park. Rising lo-fi rock bands Numb.er and Topographies will co-headline, with support from O/X and DJ Jon Blaj. The show starts at 9 and runs until 1:30, and costs just $5.
Numb.er is a genre-defying noise band from Los Angeles, fronted by photographer and visual artist Jeff Fribourg. A founding member of psychedelic group Froth, Fribourg blends synthy darkwave, post-punk, and shoegaze styles, and last year’s bold debut LP Goodbye featured melodic hooks and arresting sonics, with touches of explosive dissonance. Their headlining set on Friday night will surely be a frenetic ride.
Meanwhile, the Bay Area’s Topographies, have been one of our favorite up-and-coming acts ever since they dropped their lush debut single “Pink Thoughts” nearly a year ago. Featuring members of several other local groups, Topographies splice together pummeling, high-octane shoegaze riffs with flowing, effervescent ‘80s new wave impulses. It’s an equal parts focused and jangly mix of sonics – with piercingly gorgeous guitar noise given a rough-around-the-edges garage charm. We’ve been eagerly anticipating a San Diego show from them for a while; now that they’re coming, we’re beyond stoked.
If you’re a shoegaze fan, you won’t wanna miss this. You can purchase tickets HERE as well as at the door. See you there! In the meantime, we’ve posted songs from Numb.er and Topographies below. Enjoy.
