Reptalians: ‘VALIS’ details & SPACE show (3/10)

Reptalians are a psychedelic-tinged indie-pop band from Portland with a knack for shimmering synths, smoldering vocals, effervescent production and sci-fi theatrics. They’ve already got a couple great releases under the belt – including their chameleonic debut album FM-2030 – and have toured with groups like STRFKR, Cults, and Of Montreal. Now they’re gearing up for the release of their new LP VALIS, out April 26 via Captured Tracks, and have shared the record’s lead single “Echo Park.” It’s another beautifully loungey and spacey dream-pop track from the band, and a sign of VALIS’ huge potential.

The song is full of bright, romantic longing, but there’s a dark undercurrent as well; it’s loosely based on a “Stockholm Syndrome story of someone falling in love with their kidnapper.” The track’s atmospheric production touches give it a downtempo jazzy vibe. It’s definitely got us excited to hear the rest of the album. You can listen to “Echo Park” below, and pre-order VALIS HERE via Bandcamp.

On top of that, Reptalians are set to perform here in San Diego this Sunday at SPACE. Known for their heady live bravado and sci-fi/fantasy vibes, their set is sure to be a face-melting musical spectacle. Also, one of our favorite local bands – Chula Vista shoegazers Battery Point – is set to open, so make sure to show up early. The show’s doors open at 9, and tickets are $10. You can purchase them HERE.
